In 1999, we entered into a collaboration agreement with Rahan Meristem Ltd., an Israeli banana germplasm company. In 2012, we amended the collaboration agreement to convert it from a joint collaboration structure to a commercial license agreement. Rahan Meristem accounts for approximately 10% of the worldwide export of banana seedlings. The agreement is built around our technology and Rahan Meristem’s expertise in developing and marketing enhanced banana seedlings to the world’s leading banana companies.
Rahan's goal is to ultimately sell banana seedlings which have enhanced resistance to environmental stress such as disease, and yield fruit which have enhanced shelf life. To date Rahan has produced bananas with increased resistance to certain diseases. Field trials are continuing.
